HH SUMMER CABIN
HEMHOLMEN, VÄRMDÖ
Summer cabin - 2022-23 | Drawing a small and efficient summer cabin in the outer parts of Stockholm's archipelago. The request was to do a modern take on the small hut that is common for the area. The new house was not to provoke the nature and should embrace the feeling of multiple separate huts.
To achieve this a main building body imitates the shape of the original hut but built with a more modern material palette that at the same time pick up colors from the surroundings and makes it disappear into the landscape from a distance. This part of the building houses all the social spaces such as kitchen, dining- and living room and a loft for sleeping, watching tv or just read a book. Hidden behind this building is a more modern part building body that stretches into the nature and is connected with the social building solely by a footbridge and overhanging roof. This is where the private parts of the home is located, such as bath- and bedrooms - all with direct access to the calm nature.
The two building bodies creates an almost L-shaped building that turns its back towards south to provide act as a shelter from the sun to keep the existing outdoor "rooms" in use. Each body faces its own direction, catching unique views for its purposes. The social part have two large parties of glass facing north west overlooking lively sea views with an active boat life meanwhile the private part have a glass doors for each room facing the calm and private bay.
